What Is DOT Collector Qualification?

A DOT-qualified collector is trained to conduct drug and alcohol specimen collections for U.S. Department of Transportation–regulated employees in accordance with 49 CFR Part 40 — completing the regulation's training elements and a series of error-free mock collections.

TestRight Academy delivers this training entirely online, covering the federal collection procedures, chain-of-custody requirements, and problem-scenario handling defined under Part 40 — and concluding with audit-ready documentation you can present to an employer, C/TPA, or DOT auditor.

DOT Collector Qualification: Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about getting DOT-certified online.

None at all. These courses are built for total beginners. We start from the basics and assume you've never dealt with drug testing or the federal rules before.
Yes. The course follows the DOT's requirements under 49 CFR Part 40 and covers everything that's required, including the 5 error-free mock collections collectors have to complete.
A bit of both. You go through the online modules whenever it works for you. But to actually get qualified as a DOT collector, you also do a live Zoom session where an evaluator watches you run your mock collections. So read the modules on your own time, then book the live session to finish up.
The online modules run about 2–3 hours for the Collector course and 1–2 hours for BAT, and you go at your own pace. To get qualified you also do one live Zoom session with an evaluator, which you set up by replying to your welcome email.
When you finish, you get your official qualification paperwork, your mock collection records, and an audit-ready packet with everything a DOT auditor wants to see.
Yep. It works on any device, whether that's your phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop. Train wherever's easiest for you.
Yes. If you're signing up 3 or more people, we can work out a group rate. Reach us through the contact page or just email us and we'll send you a quote.
